THE CONCEPT OF KAFA'AH IN THE MARRIAGE OF THE SAYYID COMMUNITY VIEWED FROM ISLAMIC LAW
Keywords:

One of the things that must be considered in marriage is kafa'ah, namely compatibility, and equality. Every human being must have different perceptions of kafa'ah/equality and its implementation in marriage. This research is field research (Library research) with data collection methods, in this study using interviews and documentation, as well as qualitative data analysis techniques using inductive thinking methods. Namely drawing conclusions starting from questions or specific facts leading to general conclusions. Data and facts from field observations are compiled, processed, and studied and then the meaning is drawn into general statements or conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of kafa'ah in marriage, in general, is in accordance with the concept of kafa'ah, although it is not optimal, this is because not all people understand the meaning of kafa'ah. In practice, husband-to-be and wife-to-be will choose a partner who fits the desired criteria: good-looking/handsome, affluent, from a good family, and devout in worship. Because not all potential partners know if there are more important factors in the election, the priority for determining equality is to choose a candidate based on their material. This is what makes the implementation of kafa'ah in marriage not optimal.
